EXTRA – Art Valet interview in The Leader:
UH art students emerge with sculpture exhibit

SITE Gallery is hidden away most of the time – it is the space under the silos at Sawyer Yards – the namesake for the studios that surround it, the Silos at Sawyer Yards.

What I didn’t say in my column – was that I generally walk through the silos on 2nd Saturdays. It’s the only way to get to a storeroom where I have an electric outlet for our food trucks. Most of the time I leave the lights off because it’s a one-way trip.

Now, I’m not afraid of the dark, but when exhibits are in this space, there are strange sights and sounds. One time there were the sounds of wind gathering speed – that really through me as it was a calm morning when I arrived! This is the perfect space for the current exhibit, playing off of all our senses, and the students did a phenomenal job!

I wandered into the space last week and talked to Marie Williams, one of the students. I’m a very visual person and Marie’s piece just struck me as cool. I didn’t read about it before she told me it represents the ups and downs of relationships! Look at the closeup of the rope – and all the things that are interwoven – fascinating!

BIG SHOUTOUT and thanks to Michelle Matthews, the organizer, and one of the exhibiting students.

I snapped some pics while I was in there …

I was so caught up in it all – I failed to notice this one was in fact, Tiffany’s!
